Christine from the SF EGA turned Bears into Kittens on this baby quilt.

This update from our friend Christine from the San Francisco chapter of the Embroiderer’s Guild of America. She won our big gift basket at the KDS booth at the National Seminar in SF last year and has been sending me updates on how she has utilized the contents, which is so fun to hear about! Here is her latest report to Basha:

Christine writing from here. Thought you might be surprised since I last saw you at our SF EGA April meeting this year that I am still devouring the treats received in the Kooler opportunity basket won at the National EGA seminar in 2010 here in SF. This month when invited to a baby shower for the 7-months pregnant wife Johanna of our nephew (she is pictured with me at the Cincinnati baby shower last Sunday), I began to cross stitch from the janlynn 34″x44″ acrylic 19-ct. evenweave baby blanket in your basket. I adapted the Keepsake Afghan Leaflet 2486 by Linda Gillum, A Record of Baby’s First Year, also from your basket. It turned out to be the hit of the baby shower. We were all supposed to bring a children’s book instead of a card with our gift so I chose The Color Kittens by Margaret Wise Brown (my actual favorite as a child by an author now more famous for Goodnight Moon).
I decided since the mother to be has chosen grey and yellow as her baby room colors, that I would adjust your leaflet pattern from bears to grey kittens. That only meant making more pointed ears, adding whiskers and an occasional cat’s tail to what I stitched. I added a few lines from the book on how to mix colors as my decoration for the borders. In all my years of stitching, I’d never worked on a pre-made acrylic blanket background and it was certainly soft and lightweight. Thanks again for making such an extra special gift more possible. Best regards, Christine
